Dynamic Doers

Women are in focus across the world thanks to international women’s day on 8th March. Pakistani women, however, don’t need to wait for one day in the year to have the spotlight on them, for they have the ability to rise above the ordinary, the courage to smile through adversity, the attitude to meet challenges, and the talent to deal with people at their individual level - and still strike a perfect balance between their professional and personal lives.Keeping pace with our women-centric thoughts in our special women’s day cover story, we celebrate dynamic Pakistani women who are making their mark in different professions and are pulling out all the stops when it comes to big achievements.
Irum FarooqueSocial Activist/P.R. Person for a Local Political Party
Inner beauty and social activism is what makes Irum Farooque a woman of substance. Working extensively on projects like promoting education in the juvenile jail, introducing rehab programmes for street children and the development of old people’s homes in society are some of the goals Irum looks forward to achieving in life. She is also working as the P.R. person of a prominent local political party - a post she has recently accepted as a challenge.
The best part of being a woman… Is that women can make things happen if they put their foot down on any particular issue. And the other part is that women can make a generation…
How do you strike a balance between your personal and professional life?I have 3 kids and, from the beginning, they are totally independent. My husband is also very cooperative, so I work accordingly. I do my household work in the first half of the day and in the second half, I do my professional work. A lot of things can be done if they are planned.
Professional hazards at the workplace…In the beginning, when they looked at me, they didn’t take me seriously, but after a while, when you work dedicatedly and seriously, they have no choice but to take you seriously. It happens with me most of the time.
Women you look up to…Women who have achieved success in their limited resources. Whatever profession a woman gets into, if she has the flair to work hard and work seriously in any environment, she is bound to get success. I look up to these successful ladies with respect.
The path to success is… Motivation and plan always for the end of the work (whatever you are into) rather than the beginning. There should be a positive attitude in your daily life and take every day as it is. Do plan for the future but the success lies in your present situation. Make the most of it…
